Goodbye Short Shorts…Hello Ugly Sweaters???

August 14, 2009

It’s that time again. Time to start packing up those sexy short shorts (alliteration), and stocking up on those chunky sweaters…Well only if you want to. I’m begging you, please don’t buy ugly chunky sweaters! I know the upcoming cold weather might make you want to cave in, but don’t! You can still stay fierce, while warm…although looking good is always a sacrifice. Just follow my tips, which I will keep adding as we get closer to fall. For now, you can start stocking up on colorful cardigans, sleek suit jackets, long clean-cut trenches, and vintage sweaters. Let’s start with the colorful cardigans.

Bright colors with other bright colors

This cardigan looks great when paired with another bright unusual color. I chose this one because it’s such a cool color. I’ve never seen this before, and it looks great. It’s also minimal, if you’re into that. There are no humungous buttons, or wacky patterns.

Stripes are overrated

Stripes are overrated

Now here’s something I’m really tired of. Stripes. Seriously, it’s all over. It was cool at first, but now everyone wears stripes, especially cardigans. Please don’t go for the striped cardigan. Just let it die. It’ll come back later. But one thing to notice is the unique button system. They’re snap buttons, which you don’t see everyday. I think it’s cool, and you should definitely look for that when you go shopping. I bet you you won’t really find someone with the same cardigan.

And now onto the suit jackets.

Fitted jackets are sweet

When you go shopping, try to find fitted suit jackets. They’ll keep you somewhat warm and look great without going through the whole coat thing. They tie your outfits together, and really frame your body. Also, they look great on skinny dudes as well as built ones.

And now for the trenches.

Trenches are cool.

Trenches are cool.

Trenches can take the place of bulky coats, as long as you find the right one (although it might take a while). These coats look sleek, and also frame your body. They have the power of making you look mysterious, which is always a plus. You can even find one in a more exotic color if you want.

Sweaters are always appropriate, and now you have an excuse to wear them if you’re lazy in the mornings! You just have to find the right one.

Notice the neck opening

I really like this one because of the hood, and how it’s shaped. It allows for visibility, and would best be worn with a tight V-neck tee. The color is also really nice and simple.

GREEN GREEN GREEN GREEN GREEN GREEN

This one is also very simple, but the color makes the statement. Also notice how it’s paired with the blue and brown. I can’t stress how much simplicity is the key with sweaters. You don’t want to go overboard:

The pattern monster threw up...but it could be a lot worse.

I don’t particularly like the mix of patterns, and neither do I like the big puffyness of it and the obviously short sleeves (he rolls them up..sly dog).

Now. You also don’t have to add all of these elements into one. Please don’t do this:

Too Much...

Too Much...

I bet it’s 90 degrees in there. Layering might be your thing, but this fall don’t layer all the wrong things. Even the tie is way too much, and here’s a tip: don’t let your tie fade into the shirt. Then there’s absolutely no point.

Now I have faith in you. Go Shop!! And I’ll keep the posts coming!

xoxo Luther.

I totally loved the first lime green cardigan and your pointers on the key clothing elements for Fall. I would love if at one point you discuss what scarfs are in and OUT!
