Cherry Lollies and Lolita’s Wardrobe?

January 9, 2010

So some of you may have noticed that Spring 2010 is all about Lolita…Please tell me you’ve either read the book or have seen the movie. If not, rent it. But back to Fashion; It seems all the designers have  gotten together and watched Lolita, because all their collections are very similar to what she wears in the movie and book.

One bathing suit/lingerie/I can’t believe she’s wearing this in public as it is, looks exactly like the “whatever it is” she is wearing in the movie. Suspicious, I know…Anyway, I just thought this trend was worth knowing, so when spring comes along and you go spring shopping, you can pick up something along the lines of these:

Marc by Marc Jacobs

Marc by Marc Jacobs

Peter Som

Miu Miu

Luella

Louis Vuitton

D&G

Christopher Kane

Chanel

Alexander Wang

Marc by Marc Jacobs

Prada

Moschino Cheap and Chic

Lolita...and the almost identical outift

As you can see, it’s all about looking cute and sexy at the same time…and I know many of you are wondering…”how can you look cute and sexy at the same time?”. It’s all about moderation. It can’t be overly sexy, or too cute like cats. It has to be somewhere in the middle. For example, really short Alexander Wang shorts and an oversized, low-cut striped polo shirt. And don’t forget the knee-length  socks. Another thing every Lolita-er out there should have is the bow. Now the bow really ties the look together, saying you’re innocent but playful. Oversized bows really give off more of the “playful” side to that.

Lastly, you need the lips, and hair. There is no right way to do it, but many exaggerate the stereotype with long braided or pinned up hair, and the red lipstick. Now red lipstick does not work on everyone, so you have to find your own. But when you do, you’ll look AMAZING.

Just remember…Cute but Dangerous, or Innocent but Playful…There is no need for the “mysterious” to enter the look. So don’t try to add that in there. Lolita knows what she wants and is very straight-forward about it. She is pretty much fearless, and LOVES to tease, so also keep that in mind. What I like to do is think of what I’m trying to say with my look on a particular day, and then try my best to get that vibe across to others. So have fun! And I’ll post some places to get clothes like these on the cheap!

XOXO

Luther

I beg to differ. I think the Spring 2010 is more of a innovative recreation of the 80s and 90s. The large bow is just a coincidence. It may just be that everyone loves Tavi Gevinson.
